Something strange..
18:27 Fri, 16 Feb 2024
The Single Life. It's been almost 3 years since my last post, the inevitable divorce completed in early 2023 having taken what seemed like an age. Lockdown didn't help, with people furloughed and working from home, plus the corrupt scum that are 'Endeavour Law' that my ex-wife used as a solicitors. She spent three times what I did on 'representation', and guess who ended up paying for most of that in the settlement. More soon... Maybe :(

Covid-19. Here we are in 2021, Lockdown #3 is in full effect. My wife moved out almost a year ago :( It's been a strange year, I turned 50, had a very muted celebration. What should have been a milestone birthday withered away into nothing. My wifes behaviour has become more erratic of late, she follows me around checking where abouts I am (as if I can go far in lockdown). Things must improve soon..surely?

Separation. 3 years ago we we're having an amazing time in Jerez and it was one of our best holidays together. Now we can barely sit in the same room and hold a conversation. I couldn't imagine feeling any lonelier. :(

At last! I've finally figured out the problem with htaccess and the other bits on SDF. :D Seems lockdown wasn't wasted after all !

Loneliness. Here I am again. Things aren't going well, me and the wife have done nothing but argue for months, and it's getting us both down. A series of events have taken their toll on us and its showing. :(

Just a quick check in. Seems the site is working again so who knows? There's only me that reads it anyway :D

A year. Almost a year. I don't know how these things work, but for some reason I stumble upon SDF again at seemingly regular intervals. Well, not regular, but uniform. I digress. What have I been doing for the past 12 months ? Well, besides working a lot, I've been serving as House Secretary of my local club (watering hole). It takes up a fair bit of time and can be quite stressful, but can be rewarding too knowing you're helping out and driving the place in the right direction. We've gone from near insolvency to profitability in the space of 18 months, down to careful management of staff and funds, and that's something I'm proud of. I've also started endurance racing my 'new' motorcycle with NoLimits Racing. Yup, as I promised last year, I was looking for a newer bike and when a 2012 GSXR 1000 turned up at a local dealer, I grabbed it. A bit of Ebaying later and it's got a full Akrapovic exhaust system, Bazazz traction control/quickshifter, and an Ohlins rear shock. We've had a great time racing this year and I'm really looking forward to next season. I'm taking the wife and daughter back to London for Christmas shopping/drinking again this year, so I'm looking forward to that too. More not very soon. ;)

Nightshift. Here I am, back on nights. There's something altogether surreal about working nights. Your body gets used to it, but for some unknown reason, your mind never really does. You're brain just won't adjust to the fact that you're up when you should be fast asleep. Well, mine doesn't anyway. Enough of that. I'm looking for a new motorcycle. Not sure if it'll be brand new or new to me, but it'll be fresh. BP forks, Ohlins rear, full race pipe, electronics etc etc. BRING IT ON :D

CNC. I'm slowly but surely getting to grips with this CNC malarkey. Things I've noticed so far. The best CAM software is the most expensive for a reason. 3-Axis stuff from Autodesk is easy to learn and easy to use. How the hell anyone uses anything else once they've tried it I'll never know. Mastercam or Solidcam appear slow, bulky and cumbersome in comparison. Here's a photo to be going on with.. :D

Later tater ...

London. I've just come back from a weekend in our capital with the wife and daughter for her 18th birthday. It's a beautiful city, I'd forgotten just how beautiful. It's a pity the whole world and it's brother decided to go at the same time as we did though. How the hell do people put up with the crowds ? Christ, it drove me mad after about an hour. I have to say, we had a great time, and were made very welcome, so I think Hel and I are going back in the summer. :) Next up ... Xmas.

I've just got back from Lanzarote. What a fabulous place. I'm also the colour of molasses. :D Sun is out here at home though, so all good. The Solidworks is coming along nicely, we've managed to churn out some nice little bits and bobs on the miller, life is good.

March. Yes, you read that right, it's fucking March already. I haven't ridden my bike in anger since August last year, and it's starting to show. In other news, a friend of mine has just bought a ProtoTrak 3-axis CNC miller, so at least I won't be too bored ... I just need to learn Solidworks now ! That should keep me busy ;)

Christmas. I like Christmas, in fact I'd go as far as to say I love Christmas. So why is it we put ourselves through so much stress worrying about what gifts to get people ? We seem to be obsessed with how we appear to others by way of our generosity. What happened to having a good time with family and friends ? The mind boggles, but this year, maybe we should try and concentrate on that. TriG out ..

Return. Well, guess what, it's me again. I finally got around to making a decent donation to SDF-EU.org, and got access to php again. Oh Joy :D More soon, maybe.

Job. Just before Christmas, I noticed one of my old employers was advertising for staff. I have fond memories of working there (including my apprenticeship) and knocked up a CV and sent it off. A week later and bingo, I've got an interview. It was with two blokes I worked with when I served my time, so not much changes there obviously. I've been asked back for a second interview, which I'm kind of looking forward too, but they've asked for my certification, which, apart form the last decade or so, has a few bits missing. Can I find my Indentures ? Nope. O.N.C ? That'll be a no then.
Looks like I'm winging it. Wish me luck. ;)

Sneeze. Being on nigh-shift is bollocks enough, without being rudely awakened by an itch inside my left nostril. No amount of sniffing, snorting or nose blowing is shifting it. So, here I sit, watching a telephone repair man fiddle about in the junction box in the road at the back of the house, wondering if he's going to accidentally balls up my ADSL. And he's gone. In the time it took to type that he's vanished, no van in sight, so he must have walked, or ran, to get out of my view in that time. Unless he just went into the house he was outside.
Time for more sleep.

Seinfeld. Sky Atlantic are showing the whole lot again from scratch. Apparently 75,000,000 Americans tuned in to watch the last episode, and having just watched 5 minutes of the first episode, I can see why. I found myself wishing it was the last episode too.

My last post made me sound like a miserable old fart.
Which is ironic, because I am a miserable old fart.
Obviously. :/

Teenagers. What is it with teenagers and their seeming in-ability to do anything you tell them ? Kids today seem to view their parents as cash-vending taxi drivers who have nothing better to do than wait for their beloved children's next whim. Light switches become an inconvenient one-shot that someone else will switch off again at some point.
Still, one down, one to go. ;)

This is day one.
